Funds

At Maestro, the bulk of assets are managed in segregated (separate) portfolios, i.e. where the assets are invested in the client's own name or the name of their entity, for example, a trust. This applies to both private client portfolios and institutional client funds.

However, there are a number of benefits to be obtained by managing collective investment solutions i.e. where investor assets are pooled into one (collective) portfolio, such as that of a unit trust or other types of 'pooled vehicles' such as retirement funds, retirement annuities, living annuities, etc. We do not see these collective schemes or 'products' as an end in themselves, but rather as a means to help investors achieve their respective investment objectives.

Maestro currently manages the following investment funds:

Maestro Global Balanced Fund

The Maestro Global Balanced Fund is an investment-linked, long-term Endowment Policy, issued by 27four Life, designed to provide investors with a tax-efficient way of investing outside of South Africa.Maestro launched the endowment policy – The Maestro Global Balanced Fund – in November 2017. Maestro has the ability to remit clients’ assets offshore. However, when Maestro reached the SARB-imposed limit of 40% of retail assets under management towards the end of 2017, it established the Maestro Global Balanced Fund to continue offering its existing and prospective clients the opportunity to externalize their assets.

The reference currency for the Maestro Global Balanced Fund is South African rand although it is effectively an offshore investment by virtue of the fact that all its assets are invested into Central Park Global Balanced Fund, which is a dollar-denominated global unit trust.

The Maestro Global Balanced Fund represents a destination for South African and global investors seeking a stable and conservative investment vehicle. The Fund has been established with a flexible mandate to allow the maximum use of investment opportunities across the traditional range of asset classes.

Central Park Global Balanced Fund

The Central Park Global Balanced Fund is a private unit trust (mutual fund) based in the British Virgin Islands. It invests across global equity, bond and cash markets and across different currencies. It is important to note that Central Park Global Balanced Fund has not been approved by the South African regulator, the Financial Services Board, for sale to the retail public. However, we are authorized to use it internally and make it available to all Maestro clients.Central Park Global Balanced Fund was established in June 2004 to accommodate clients who would like to invest some or all of their assets offshore. With a minimum investment of $100 000, the Fund aims to produce above-average long-term returns by investing in global equity, bond and cash markets. Central Park Global Balanced Fund is domiciled in the British Virgin Islands and is subject to the regulatory regime of the aforementioned’s Financial Services Commission.

In addition, Central Park Global Balanced Fund endeavours to assume less risk than that of the markets in which it is invested and it invests both directly into shares and into investment funds in order to achieve the required level of diversification. In keeping with our investment philosophy, Central Park Global Balanced Fund is managed conservatively in order to secure optimal growth through a variety of market conditions.

Central Park Global Balanced Fund has a 'global balanced mandate' enabling it to invest in any geographic region and across any asset class. To that end the Fund invests in equities, bonds, cash and alternative investments such as private equity investments and hedge funds, although the two latter types of investments form only a small component of the Fund. The Fund is able to invest into developed markets as well as emerging markets.

Central Park Global Balanced Fund is an ideal solution for global investors seeking a stable investment solution that yields results. The flexibility of the Fund’s mandate allows it to invest across many different types of assets and in many different regions, although all changes to the asset allocation take place gradually and do not detract from Maestro’s core investment philosophies and values.
