Funds

At Maestro, the bulk of assets are managed in segregated (separate) portfolios, i.e. where the assets are invested in the client's own name or the name of their entity, for example, a trust. This applies to both private client portfolios and institutional client funds.

However, there are a number of benefits to be obtained by managing collective investment solutions i.e. where investor assets are pooled into one (collective) portfolio, such as that of a unit trust or other types of 'pooled vehicles' such as retirement funds, retirement annuities, living annuities, etc. We do not see these collective schemes or 'products' as an end in themselves, but rather as a means to help investors achieve their respective investment objectives.

Maestro currently manages the following investment funds:

Maestro Equity Fund

The Maestro Equity Prescient Fund is a general equity unit trust that invests solely in the South African share market.Maestro launched its unit trust – the Maestro Equity Prescient Fund – in July 2005. The Maestro Equity Prescient Fund operates as a white-label fund under the Prescient Unit Trust Scheme. Prior to this, Maestro offered only segregated portfolio management with a high minimum threshold for investment. By establishing a widely accessible unit trust, the average investor can now access Maestro’s funds services in a manner that is both cost-effective and rewarding.

The Maestro Equity Prescient Fund falls into the "Domestic – General Equity Funds" category of fund classification. The Fund is a typical equity unit trust: it prices daily and clients are kept abreast of developments within the Fund via a monthly Fund Summary. We also issue a Quarterly Report which incorporates the current Maestro Market Commentary.

The Maestro Equity Prescient Fund mirrors the investment view that Maestro applies to all its private client portfolios and therefore affords investors who do not have the necessary minimum in assets an equal opportunity to benefit from our expertise. It also gives intermediaries with whom Maestro has long-standing relationships the opportunity to do business with the company.

Central Park Global Balanced Fund

The Central Park Global Balanced Fund is a private unit trust (mutual fund) based in the British Virgin Islands. It invests across global equity, bond and cash markets and across different currencies. It is important to note that Central Park Global Balanced Fund has not been approved by the South African regulator, the Financial Services Board, for sale to the retail public. However, we are authorized to use it internally and make it available to all Maestro clients.Central Park Global Balanced Fund was established in June 2004 to accommodate clients who would like to invest some or all of their assets offshore. With a minimum investment of $100 000, the Fund aims to produce above-average long-term returns by investing in global equity, bond and cash markets. Central Park Global Balanced Fund is domiciled in the British Virgin Islands and is subject to the regulatory regime of the aforementioned’s Financial Services Commission.

In addition, Central Park Global Balanced Fund endeavours to assume less risk than that of the markets in which it is invested and it invests both directly into shares and into investment funds in order to achieve the required level of diversification. In keeping with our investment philosophy, Central Park Global Balanced Fund is managed conservatively in order to secure optimal growth through a variety of market conditions.

Central Park Global Balanced Fund has a 'global balanced mandate' enabling it to invest in any geographic region and across any asset class. To that end the Fund invests in equities, bonds, cash and alternative investments such as private equity investments and hedge funds, although the two latter types of investments form only a small component of the Fund. The Fund is able to invest into developed markets as well as emerging markets.

Central Park Global Balanced Fund is an ideal solution for global investors seeking a stable investment solution that yields results. The flexibility of the Fund’s mandate allows it to invest across many different types of assets and in many different regions, although all changes to the asset allocation take place gradually and do not detract from Maestro’s core investment philosophies and values.
